Reading Wonders

We are in full swing with our new Wonders reading program!   As a teacher I love all of the materials that we received with the program!  We are learning to use text to answer comprehension questions.

We also LOVE the books that we get to use!  These kiddos are the first ones to use them and we had to give those books a sniff.  New books smell SO terrific!

Odyssey of the Mind Task

Today in first grade we learned about the Odyssey of the Mind and watched a video that showed some of the things that kids do when they participate in this program.  The students were given a bag of materials.  These included a rubber band, toothpicks, a styrofoam cup, straws, mailing labels and string.  They had to build a structure that was as tall as they could make it and would need to hold as many paper clips as possible!

The kids worked in small groups and worked REALLY hard.  They did a great job working together and communicating their ideas to each other.  I was a very proud teacher!

I am fairly certain that we have some future engineers in our class!

Singing and Dancing!

We are so excited about our new Wonders program!
Each week we get a new video to dance to!
Next time I will remember to take a video....cute!

Go Noodle saved my life!

Have you ever heard of GoNoodle????  This is the greatest thing since sliced bread!  It allows the children to have a fun, age appropriate and advertisement-safe site for dancing, meditation and all around goofiness. The 2 guys below are Neil and Bryan and they are the craziness behind Koo Koo Kangaroo.  They lead some of the videos on GoNoodle.

The kids have done a few GoNoodle videos. This website tracks our minutes and gives us rewards when we achieve our goals!

You can sign up at home for your free account and do a little GoNoodling with your family! Just click the link below!
